TEACHING
Volunteers are placed to teach in Senior high, Junior and nursery schools based on their interest and experience. As a teacher you are given a one week guiding and coaching on the Ghanaian way of teaching to enable you teach to the understanding of the pupils. Volunteers can choose to teach subjects like; English, Mathematics, environmental science, ICT, Culture and Dance.
During teaching volunteers have opportunities to interact directly with pupils and also share some good cultural values and stories.
Natural Resource management
The Northern part ofhas very good unexplored natural resources, which when explored effectively will bring to the doors of Tamale a sustainable development. One of DECC ,s main focus is to train the youth on the utilization of the natural resources to fight hanger and poverty among them and the rural families also to help eradicate child streetsm which is most common in the Tamale metropolis. DECC has taking an initiative to promote Bee keeping, guinea fowl rearing and also to revitalize tourism in Northern Region.
Researching on herbal medicines to help promote the effective use of large species of plants available to provide good health care in the Northern region.
Volunteers with interest in this filed are placed to help promote and facilitate the improvement of local initiatives. Volunteers with knowledge of natural resource management are also highly welcome.
HEATH CARE
Due to the poverty rate of house holds in the Northern region, inhabitances are unable to access good drinking water, good sanitation and proper health care; hence they exposed to many diseases and sickness such as Guinea worm, Malaria, Tuberculoses and HIV Aids or other sexual transmitted infections.
Volunteers with health care background /experience are placed in health centre and rural communities to assist give good health care and support to the deprived.
HIV Aids or sexual transmitted infections (STI s) campaigns are setup in communities by volunteers to help educate rural dwellers on the causes and effects, also maternal birth being the large death cause of rural mothers is responded to by organization of training programs for rural birth attendants to educate them on child birth.

Working as a volunteer is a great way to put your shoulder to the wheel and to be busy in a meaningful way together with and for other people. Further more it gives you the opportunity to widen your horizon and learn a lot. We hope that you as a volunteer, will contribute to the project, but will also learn something to experience yourself. Never the less a lot is expected from you. We require that you take your job seriously and will mean something for the project you will be working on.
At this moment various volunteers are working in for DECC. DECC has a lot of experience in voluntary work. For this reason we are able to make sure, motivated and capable people fit on the right location to work as volunteers. We also assure an optimal coaching. We serve our volunteers with relevant assistance and support during their preparations, work and stay.? In order to guarantee this, we generally place no more than sixty volunteers each month.

The total cost of DECC's voluntary program fees for the first three months is USD $950. Every month you stay in addition to that will cost you an extra USD $150. We try to keep the program costs as low as possible. This is partially possible because, a contribution to DECC is on voluntary basis. DECC doesn't aim to make profit, so the registration fee consists only of the costs that are made during your stay with DECC. It's also important to be aware that a minimum of $50 is reserved for two separate projects, which DECC supports in some targeted rural communities in Tamale. At the end of every financial year we add the money that is left from reserves and donations to the$50 for projects in these communities, as part of DECC's social responsibility.
Please note:
food and accommodation are included in the price for the first three months. To calculate your total program costs, you have to multiply every extra month (after the first three months) by $150; you add this amount to the $ 950, to DECC bank account number.

Further $50 per week
E.g. lunch, snacks, drinks, short trips, extension of visa, weekend expenses etc.
Costs for travelling $60 per week
Recommended that you first end all voluntary work before starting a travel longer than a month. Your expenses are uncertain; we can only give an estimation based on own experiences.
Note
The program fee does not include the above variable cost, telephone calls, drinks, in country transport, souvenirs and weekend expenses.
Do not forget to take along some cash notes of Euros, Dollars or Pounds Sterling, besides the safely ensured Travelers Cheque (for the first day(s), for in case the banks are closed or for unexpected casualties).
