  Archipelagos,InstituteofMarineand Environmental Research of the Aegean Sea is a Greek non-profit environmental NGO, whose work aims in the conservation of the natural environment of theAegean Sea.
        Archipelagos’ research work focuses on various fields such as the study of the biodiversity of the marine environment (coastal ecology & biodiversity, marine mammal populations, fisheries productivity), as well as of the terrestrial environment, (study of the biodiversity of flora and fauna of the terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems of the east Aegean islands, as well as the factors of threat, agronomic research, seed bank projects and other).

Archipelagos, Institute ofMarine& Environment Research of theAegean Sea, offers a series of educational/practical training activities, related (directly or indirectly) with the field of environmental conservation.

 

 

 

 

A. Training Placements

 

 

Archipelagos provides the opportunity to recent graduates and students, of acquiring practical training experience in the following fields:

 

 

·        Marine research & conservation

 

 

·        Flora research & conservation

 

 

·        Research on bird populations

 

 

·        Organic agronomy & seed bank research

 

 

·        Chemical & microbiological assessment of environmental impacts

 

 

·        GIS analysis of marine & terrestrial biodiversity data

 

 

·        Scientific illustration of marine & terrestrial biodiversity

 

 

·        Graphic design for environmental conservation

 

 

·        Multimedia design for environmental conservation

 

 

·        Environmental photography & filming in the region of easternAegean Sea

 

 

·        Applications of renewable energy sources

 

 

 

 

The placements are addressed to students and graduates of Marine, Environmental, Biological Sciences, Geology, Agronomy, Chemistry-Biochemistry and related sciences, as well as Multimedia, Graphic Design, Scientific Illustration, Photography, Film-making and related arts.

 

 

The training placements take place in Archipelagos’ research bases and stations, on eastern Aegean islands (location can vary with the placement) and can have duration of 3 to 12 months, working language being English. Trainees can join as individuals or groups. Where groups are concerned, placements can be of more flexible duration (from a few weeks to several months - varying according to the characteristics and interests of the group). PLACEMENT DURATION

 

 

Individual trainees can join in placements of duration 3 - 12 months

 

 

For the participation of groups, placements are of more flexible duration (from few weeks to several months - varying according to the characteristics and interests of the group)

- Full board accommodation for groups and individual participants

 

 

-Guidance of a tutor who will be responsible for monitoring the progress of the work placement/field course

 

 

- Evaluation of work carried out and final report

 

 

- Certifications from Archipelagos, IMERAS, about the experience gained and results and outcomes of the project

 

 

- Greek or English Language Courses  

 

 

- Organizing of transport from airport and ferry ports to Archipelagos’ research bases
