Mandarin Immersion Program

The Mandarin Immersion Program is our cour curriculum which is comprehensively designed to provide participants with an intensive course of total immersion in learning all aspects of the langauge: speaking, reading, writing and listening. We integrate language instruction, practice in real-life situation, cultural activities and several electives to enable participants to achieve profiency as well as an understanding of Chinese culture.

Intensive language classes which allow participants to get enough practice in all aspects of the language.

 

Highly qualified and experienced native language trainers who are eager to help students solve their language learning problems.

 

Advanced training methods, resources, facilities, and equipment. All textbooks and other teaching materials are carefully selected and designed for students.

 

A variety of class activities including pronunciation, error correction, sentence drills, dictation, situational dialogues and role play.

 

A free one hour after class tutorial for students in the afternoon to help them solve problems, do extra oral practice and communicate with their teacher.

 

A wide choice of elective classes are arranged in the afternoon including: Pronunciation tips; Character writing; Reading Comprehension; Composition; Chinese calligraphy; Chinese painting; Chinese Martial Arts, etc. Students have the option to take any of them to help themselves improve their language skills as well as understand more about Chinese culture.

 

Language practice is specially designed for participants at lower levels as a supplementary teaching and learning activity. Students are encouraged to complete real life tasks outside the classroom based on the expressions, vocabulary and topics covered in class such as: exchanging money, taking taxis, ordering food, shopping, etc. This is to enable students to overcome the language barriers in real life situations and master the language in a very fast and effective way.

 

Extracurricular activities are normally organized on Fridays or weekends and include cultural events such as: Beijing opera, Chinese movies and drama, acrobatics, visiting museums and art galleries, etc. Meanwhile, a range of social activities such as “Chinese Table”, sports day, karaoke night provide more opportunities for practicing the language and communicating with local people. All these activities aim at creating opportunities for students to improve their language skills as well as fully appreciate Chinese culture, history and modern society.

 

We also organize some cultural excursions on weekends to some historical and cultural attractions.  Alongside sightseeing and relaxing, students could also explore and learn about a side of the city and the country that they can not find in the textbooks.

 

A placement test will be conducted before the course commences and ongoing assessment will be carried out throughout the program. Participants will also have homework assignments, and regular progress checks. When students have passed one level they will be awarded an official certificate and promoted to the next level.
